Pay attention to what people say and check your quest log if you forget. Most quests involve moving to a location and talking to a person, killing someone, or getting/returning an item.
This way you can sell or auction the item for more money. When choosing your reward after certain quests, be sure to pick the most expensive item if you can't use either one or won't keep the item until you can use it. You should also repair your current gear. This way you have more space for better equipment and a bit more money to buy it with. In between quests its handy to sell off any useless trophies, or old equipment that you no longer need. Don't bother to repair gear before you sell it, save your money for the gear that you're wearing.
